A tenacious yet gentle presence comes from a voice not from this time, the unique timber of London born Jazz/Pop, Soul, and RnB artists Babs Savage established her presence singing in the nightclubs back in the days that ID was just a magazine, and not a pass to get you into a club. At the young age of 14, Babs was performing with her nine piece band Savajazz; which opened for George Michael’s band Wham at the Camden palace. (Babs was famously known for telling George Michael that his boating shoes would never take off; however, they became the best seller that season on the London Club scene after George wore them for their first video.) at Koko’s, previously known as The Music Machine and Camden Palace.
Enter stage left, infamous Songwriter, and Producer of many hit songs and the musical Oliver, Lionel Bart who was the first to introduce Babs to the concept of the recording studio; where Babs session sang and recorded for various artist within the Music Industry. Later, Babs pursued a career in drama, while she studied at Central School. Whilst engaged in her theatrical studies, Babs also wrote and directed plays for fellow students, where she genuinely relished the creative process.
Babs’ love of the creative process rivalled, falling in love with her husband to be Jon Moss the drummer of Culture Club; at that point Babs decided to pursue a career path that was more suited with making a family and being a hands on Mum. At this point, Babs studied Chinese medicine and went to become one of London’s leading Obstetric Acupuncturists. She found a niche which suited her… working with pre and post natal mothers and fertility patients, which fortified her role as a mother of three children.
Although, Babs never stopped singing through this period and consistently performed at numerous events which included private parties, and tenderly sang to her patients to avert their fear of needles (“If music be the food of life play on (Shakespeare, 12th night, 1602)” .
Then approximately 16 years ago as she was performing at London’s Playboy Club where she met a musician from Chicago who took her covers album back to the US and played it to Producer/Writer/Performer Rickey Rainbow. It was from that moment where Babs and Rickey began to write and record her first album of original material.
Babs released her first single LA LA in America, which reached the top 40 in the Urban charts over there; and, after releasing her club version it reached #1 in her home territory of London. She then went on to release HOT APPLE PIE which made it to #1 in Chicago; and continued to complete her LONDON KISSES album which won the Chicago Music Award for Best Creative Artist of 2019.
Since then Babs has been performed in various venues across London including the Pheasantry – Pizza Express music venues and in Chicago. Currently Babs is working on her latest project entitled “WHISPERS” with music by Rickey Rainbow and Fudge Jarcheh, and Writer Jeremy Raison. “WHISPERS” has been specifically designed for a Las Vegas theatre hopefully to be seen on the stage by 2025.
